Harrison
Warren Phillips, Sr.
The early history of Jaxon's
involves two men, Jack Kimmel and Harrison Phillips. After
a 15 year partnership, Mr. Kimmel passed away and Harrison
purchased Mr. Kimmel's part of Jaxon's. Thus, this history
will focus on Harrison Phillips.
Harrison,
also known as "Mr. Jaxon", Hassie, Daddy, Granddaddy
and many other affectionate names, was born in Greenbush,
Virginia, on March 29, 1921. He was the second of three sons
and his parents, Carrie and Warren Phillips, raised their
family on a farm in Greenbush, Virginia. Harrison attended
Accomac High School (AHS). After completing the required eleven
grades for graduation, he entered postgraduate school at AHS,
taking a year of courses in business management.
Upon
completion of his business courses, Harrison served as a civil
servant, working as a clerk in the Pentagon. As the United
States entered WWII, Harrison was called to active duty two
months after the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He served in
